Gerard Haughey
Chiropractor • Director

Registered with the GCC and the UCA.

I first discovered the power of Chiropractic when I was 11 years old, having injured my back whilst playing sport, my father took me to a Chiropractor. It is thanks to this Chiropractor, who was funny and inspirational that I became a Chiropractor, even if I didn’t realise it at the time! Having graduated from the Welsh Institute of Chiropractic in 2008, one of only two European accredited programs in the UK. I am now a Chiropractor and owner of Chiropractic Works, Ecclesall Road, Sheffield. Since graduating I have studied further national and international courses in extremity adjusting (adjustments specifically for the elbow, wrist, shoulder knee and hip) and paediatric techniques.

I have spoken reguarly on BBC Radio Sheffield, advising listeners who call in with their health questions. I have also been invited to give health talks to Hallam University employees, discussing such topics as back care at work, ergonomics and the importance of posture.

I enjoy seeing a wide range of conditions in patients spanning from the young to the elderly often within the same family. I am a good listener and am passionate to get the message of the many benefits of safe and natural Chiropractic care can give people by optimising the function of the nervous system, enabling the body to work better.

My aim is to become further involved in the community, giving expert advice of how to maintain a healthy spine and nervous system, giving talks to local schools, community groups and businesses.

Sophie McMullen
Chiropractor • Director

Registered with the GCC and the UCA.

Having worked in chiropractic clinics located in Broomhill and Chapeltown for 11 years, Sophie has decided to bring her excellent range of Chiropractic skills to Chiropractic Works. Sophie has built up a wide range of experience in a number of areas of Chiropractic having done further training in the Chiropractic assessment and treatment of babies and toddlers, the pregnant pelvis, sports injuries and dry needling. This is alongside the wealth of knowledge in the treatment and management of the more common lower back and neck issues we see on a daily basis.

I love what I do! It’s great when I can help people get back to doing what they enjoy with less pain and discomfort. People usually say they wish they had started with Chiropractic years ago!

Chiropractor

I first came into contact with chiropractic when visiting my cousin in my late teens. He was able to treat each patient with so much care and you could tell how much of an impact he had made on their lives. It was then that I decided that I wanted to do. What I love about chiropractic is being able to help everyday people be able to live their life to the fullest. From small things like being able to walk a little further than last week to being able to sleep pain free for the first time in years, I enjoy seeing functional improvement in patients.

I am big into my outdoorsy activities like climbing, hiking and wild swims, which all inform my approach to healthcare and my belief that activity and movement has a massive effect on the body’s health and function. My hope is to help patients continue to do what they love and live a happy life.

Ashley Lewis
BSc in Sports Therapy

I enjoy a variety of sports and activities, mainly to counterbalance the questionable amounts of chocolate that sometimes make their way into my stomach. Currently, I am engaged in going to the gym, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and walking, but I also played basketball for several years and boulder every now and then. Moreover, I am attempting to learn the wonderful language of Catalan, which is a very different and challenging endeavor for me.

From an early age, I have been involved in sports and physical activities, which instilled in me an appreciation for the human body and its capabilities, as well as an understanding of how frustrating injuries can be. My interest in how the body works was sparked during my A-level P.E. studies, which led me to complete a personal training course after finishing school, followed by my BSc in Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation at the University of Derby.

Over this period, I developed a particular interest in functional movement and how establishing a baseline level of good quality movement can significantly improve pain and performance. This involves various methods, such as resistance exercises, stretching, sports massage, joint mobilizations, kinesiology tape, or a combination of these approaches, depending on the person’s injury, goals, and situation.

I firmly believe that every patient should receive treatment tailored to their objectives. Even if two patients have the same injury, their goals may be different, and thus their treatments should vary beyond a certain point. In my opinion, merely eliminating the pain or symptoms of an injury is insufficient. Rehabilitation is necessary to address the injury’s cause and provide patients with tools to minimize the likelihood of a recurrence.

Lastly, I want to emphasize that Sports Therapy is not only for athletes! It can benefit anyone with a body consisting of bones, muscles, ligaments, and other components. Please don’t let the “sport” part deter you from seeking help.
